I’ve spent some late nights at Fast Horse lately — and on one of them I captured this high dynamic range (HDR) image. There are a few ways to create high dynamic range images. Here’s how I created the image above:

Step 1

Capture three exposures of one set image and don’t forget to use a tripod.

Step 2

Open the images in Adobe Photoshop, merge them into one canvas. The file will have three layers.

Step 3

Take the top two layers and apply a black/inverted vector mask. Then select  the brush tool.

Step 4

Paint in the details to each vector mask layer using the brush tool. Be sure to set the brush to white with 0 hardness.

Step 5

You will now have an HDR image.

Enjoy the HDR and wrap up your composite with a final color adjustment.
